Protection against Detection by Optoelectronic Devices
On a thermal image, infantrymen can be detected from a far distance as hot spots. Thus, signature reducing measures need to be taken in the area of personal camouflage. For this purpose, BLÜCHER SYSTEMS® developed a special garment called Ghost®. The used fabric incorporates metallized fibers and is available in various camouflage prints. A person wearing Ghost® shows reduced infrared emissions and thus a lower radiant temperature. The infrared pictures appear scattered and detection as a human being can be successfully avoided. Significant signature reduction is provided in the UV, NIR and TIR (3-5 µm / 8-12 µm) ranges. In the visual range Ghost® is also highly effective. Coming in various camouflage prints, it can be adapted to all types of countryside. Various background colors with different emission factors are available.
On the image taken by an infrared camera you see on the left hand side a person wearing a standard battle dress uniform. The person on the right hand side wears the Ghost® garment and adapts much better to the background.
The clothing system is suitable for all fields of deployment, including those carried out under extreme conditions, and can be adjusted to specific user requirements. Ghost® material is also used for the manufacture of tarpaulins and similar items.
The Ghost® system is washable and suitable for repeated deployment. The material has excellent fastness properties and a very high tear strength.
The material can especially be adapted to specific applications and can be worn under all climatic conditions. Not only suits but sheets or similar camouflage items can be manufactured of Ghost®.
